Safe Houses For Women, LGBTQIA+ People, Children, And Men

Philisa Abafazi Bethu has operated as safe haven for people in distress and need since its founding in 2008. With steadily rising numbers of gender-based violence in South Africa, we have extended our services for survivors of abuse over the past years. In 2012, we opened our first emergency safe house for abused women, followed by a safe house for LGBTQIA+ persons in 2021, a safe house for children in 2024, and a safe house for heterosexual cis-men in 2024. In all safe houses clients get the care and support of the house mother on duty who will be able to provide support 24-hours support a day. We work closely together with the police and the Department of Social Development and our own social workers and team ensure that all our clients have the protection and support they need to stand up and take action against their abusers.
